Its disposal in landfills, even though solving an immediate issue, is not a definite solution because it creates a new complication: the occupation of terrains, thus reducing the useful area of territories, plus the gas emission that negatively affects the atmosphere and increases the contamination risks for surface and underground water sources. This study revises the issue, taking landfill mining as a reference with its technological process, its economic impact ad its applicability as a management tool.esCorporación Universitaria LasallistaÁrea Metropolitana del Valle de AburráResiduos sólidosResiduos sólidos - AprovechamientoVertederosResiduos sólidos - Manejo integralMinería de rellenos sanitarios como alternativa de gestión para residuos sólidosLandfill mining as an alternative for solid waste managementMineração de aterros sanitários como alternativa de gestão para resíduos sólidosArticle
