In Colombia, economic loses due to this fact are very high. To prevent and combat these situations, it is necessary to know the life cycle of the organisms involved, their feeding habits and their most vulnerable stages. Objective. To evaluate the life cycle of the “cucarrón del maní“ (peanut beetle) Ulomoides dermestoides COLEOPTERA: TENEBRIONIDAE in three kinds of substrates. Methodology. The damage level produced to the grains and the larvae populations were determined in three substrates: Corn, peanut and corn-peanut in a 1:1 proportion, by the use of a design of random blocks with three repetitions. Results. It was discovered that, from the egg to the adult stage, the larvae take about 11.3 months. Besides, they pass through 11 instars and also present mobile pupae. There were no big differences found among the larvae in the different substrates, nor in the level of damage caused to them. Conclusion. The larvae of Ulomoides dermestoides COLEOPTERA: TENEBRIONIDAE has a good capability of adaptation and, therefore, they can infest a considerable variety of stored grains.esCucarrón del maní (ulomoides dermestoides)Corporación Universitaria LasallistaPlagas agrícolas - ColombiaAlmacenamiento de granos - Enfermedades y dañosCría de ulomoides dermestoides, coleoptera: tenebrionidae, en tres tipos de sustratoBreeding of ulomoides dermestoides, coleoptera: tenebrionidae, in three kinds of substratesCria de ulomoides dermestoides, coleoptera: tenebrionidae, em três tipos de substrato.Article
