The results of the tests for the using of sisal leaves extract (Furcraea sp.) as a coagulation adjuvant in an industry from Bogotá D.C. are introduced. Objective. This process consists on removing solid waste that give turbidity and color to waste water, by the use of coagulant salts. Materials and methods. Treatability tests were performed in a jar test equipment using, as control variables, the color, turbidity, COD, pH and total dissolved solid waste parameters. Results. Even though the effluents analyzed contain low solid waste concentrations, average improvements of 17% of color removal, 28% in turbidity and 11% of COD abatement were obtained, concerning the use of the coagulant. This was achieved by the use of 20mg/L of ferric chloride hexahydrate as a coagulant and 5 mg/L of sisal leaves extract as an adjuvant, at a 4,62 pH. Conclusion. The use of sisal leaves as a coagulation adjuvant in pastry industries allows a medium removal, that is statistically significant (P<0,050), of 17% in the color values, 28% in turbidity values and 11% in COD, estimated on the values achieved by the use of the coagulant only and applied in water with a low load of pollutants, expressed as COD.esFique (furcraea sp.)Efluentes industrialesCorporación Universitaria LasallistaÁrea Metropolitana del Valle de AburráDemanda química de oxígeno (DQO)CoagulaciónAguas residualesAguas residuales industrialesTratamiento de aguas residualesPasteleríaUso del extracto de fique (Furcraea sp.) como coadyuvante de coagulación en tratamiento de efluentes de pasteleríaUse of sisal extract (Furcraea sp.) as a coagulation adjuvant in the treatment of pastry effluentsUso do extrato de furcraca (furcraea sp.) como coadjuvante de coagulação em tratamento de efluentes de confeitariaArticle
