This research work describes the difficulties faced by students who are coursing the education masters program, in terms of digital competencies. Objectives. Determine the development level of the digital competencies in students from the education masters program, as a tool for their academic performance. Materials and methods. This is a quantitative empirical study, located at a comparative-descriptive level, in which a census to the 15 education masters program´s students at Universidad Autónoma de Tlaxcala, Mexico, was performed. The questionnaire was built with 23 items, divided into three categories: sociodemographic data, accessibility and digital competencies. The collection and the codification of the data were made by the use of the SPSS program and the questionnaire had a 0.801 reliability, according to the internal consistency (Cronbach alpha) of the ítems. Results. The data analysis was first performed per gender, demonstrating that both genders have a high accessibility level to devices and Internet. Also, women spend more time in the network following academic objectives, while men combine the consultation of academic topics with the reading of news in the mass media sites. In general, the level of digital competence of the students is medium but, for working with images, video conferences, wikis or webquest, the habilitation levels are low. Conclusion. The results reveal scarce differences between men and women. It is, nevertheless, necessary that the masters program includes learning and digital competencies development in its study plan, thus benefitting the profesional formation of students.esCorporación Universitaria LasallistaCompetencias informacionalesEducación superiorTecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación (TIC)Educación - TecnologíaLas competencias digitales en estudiantes del posgrado en educaciónDigital competencies in students from the education graduate programAs concorrências digitais em estudantes da pós-graduação em educaçãoArticle
