It affects bovine cattle of any age and causes a high economic impact, especially in dairy herds, due to the high cost of the treatment of the symptoms, premature deaths and the replacement of sick animals (Muñoz, Posso, Muñoz, 2008), reduction of milk production and international trade restrictions (Muñoz et al., 2008; Ott, Johnson, Wells, 2003). In Colombia, it was reported for the first time more than 50 years ago (Mariño, 1984) and sanitary policies have not been yet established to prevent, control and eradicate it. At the moment, it is not mandatory to declare it to the animal sanity authorities. Serologic tests, such as AGID, ELISA and polymerase chain reaction, are used to detect it.esCorporación Universitaria LasallistaFacultad de Ciencias Administrativas y AgropecuariasLeucosis viral bovina (VLB)Ganado - EnfermedadesGanado lechero - EnfermedadesGanado lecheroLinfocitosisLinfosarcomaVirus de leucosis bovina: un enemigo silenciosoBovine leukosis virus: A silent enemyVírus de leucosis bovina: um inimigo silenciosoArticle
