The methods to evaluate blood lipids are varied in the lipid profiles of poultry. In this paper two methods to quantify the cholesterol of low density lipoproteins in laying hens are compared. Materials and methods. The low density lipoproteins´ cholesterol was quantified by the use of the Fredewald´s method and of the direct method based on detergents and N, N Bis (4-sulfobutyl) -m-toluidine in 40 laying hens from the Hy-Line W-36 line, with 26 weeks of age. Results. There are differences between methods in the results. The P value of test F is below 0,05, showing a statistically significant difference, with a 95 % confidence between methods. Conclusions. The use of the direct method based on detergents and N, N Bis (4-sulfobutyl) -m-toluidine to determine the low density lipoproteins´ cholesterol in laying hens is feasible.esCorporación Universitaria LasallistaColesterolGallinas ponedorasColesterol - MetabolismoComparación del método de Friedewald y el directo para la determinación del colesterol LDL en gallinas ponedorasComparing Fredewald´s and the direct methods to determine LDL cholesterol in laying hensComparação do método de Friedewald e o direto para a determinação do colesterol LDL em galinhas poedeirasArticle
