Therefore, there is an urgent necessity to develop innovative techniques, more effective and cheap, to treat waste waters. Electrocoagulation is a technology known since the beginning of 20th Century, it has evolved and been used for the current wastewater treatment in paper, mining and heavy metal industries. Besides, electrocoagulation has been applied to treat waters containing alimentary loses, fat, dye and suspended particles, among other elements. From this perspective, electrocoagulation is an electrochemical process which can be successful in its application, optimizing its factors and solving the challenge of protecting, keeping and recovering water as a resource.esElectrocoagulaciónTratamiento de aguas residualesElectrólisisAguas residuales industrialesCorporación Universitaria LasallistaElectrólisisElectrodosElectroflotaciónContaminación del aguaAguas residualesLa electrocoagulación: una alternativa para el tratamiento de aguas residualesElectrocoagulation: an alternative in wastewaters treatmentArticle
