The article is a Spanish version of a brief biography of the great scientist Leonardo da Vinci. It was written originally by one of the leading historians of science of the Twentieth Century, George Sarton. In it the main facts of Leonardo‘s life are given, the difficulties he had to face and some problems that his work has. There is an especial focus on his scientific legacy and his revolutionary inventions. The essential role of the manuscripts in the study of his work is stated. There is a valuable commentary on how Historians make the History of Art and the History of Science without paying attention to the creative processes and focusing only on final results of art and science.esLeonardo da VinciCorporación Universitaria LasallistaBiografíaRenacimiento“El mensaje de Leonardo: su relación con el nacimiento de la ciencia moderna” de George Sarton (traducción)Leonardo and the Birth of Modern ScienceArticle
