Item Prevalencia de infección por hemoparásitos de caninos que fueron atendidos en una clínica veterinaria de la ciudad de Medellín, durante el período comprendido entre agosto de 2011 y julio de 2013(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2016) Isaza Arcila, Daniel; Grajales Patiño, Luis Miguel; Blanco Martínez, Rafael DavidThe hemoparásitosis are diseases that cause destruction of red blood cells of dogs, causing severe cases of anemia, fevers and progressive deterioration, the etiological agents are generally Gram negative bacteria and some protozoa, its main vector is the tick but has also been shown that can be transmitted from iatrogenic way. Therefore the objective of this study was to determine the frequency of infection by blood parasites in dogs that looked at a veterinary clinic in the city of Medellin during the period between August 2011 and July 2013. A retrospective descriptive analysis was conducted in type dogs of different races, ages and sexes that consulted in the mentioned period; which in turn they presented associated infection transmitted by blood parasites and were positive for the indirect evidence of clinical signs 4DX® SNAP. It was calculated the frequency of infection and its association with some epidemiological factors using chi-square test and Fisher's exact test. 26.3% of the dogs were infected for at least one hemoparasite Ehrlichia canis being the most frequent with 89.47%. A statistically significant association between infection and body condition, integrity of mucous membranes and the presence of blood in urine, and high leukocyte and neutrophil found.
