Piómetra en ejemplar de jaguar (Panthera onca) del Parque Zoológico Santa Fe: reporte de caso.
(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2018) Zuluaga Betancur, Laura Cristina; Ruiz Murcia, Darwin Oswaldo
The Pyometra is the accumulation of purulent material in the uterus, secondary to a bacterial infection. This condition is well described in domestic dogs and cats, is mediated by hormones during the right. The pyometra often occurs secondary to cystic hyperplasia endometrial (CEH), which is thought to be the result of chronic exposure to progesterone. The (CEH) is followed by secondary bacterial overgrowth of the normal vaginal flora that enters the uterus during proestrus and estrus. The prevalence of cystic endometrial hyperplasia increases in sexually inactive feline females, as in the case of captive specimens. This condition in the female jaguar (Panthera onca) of the Santa Fe Zoo Park was diagnosed due to the clinical history and the complementary diagnostic aids made during the biometry. As a treatment, drug management, surgical conservative and radical surgical treatment are described, being the last most appropriate option due to patient management. The procedure was scheduled at the CES Veterinary and Zootechnics Center on 02/27/2018. During the preparation of the patient there was anesthetic complication which caused the cancellation of the procedure. The surgical intervention was rescheduled for 05/03/2018, which was carried out satisfactorily and, together with the adequate postoperative management, contributed to the positive evolution of the individual.
