Abstract
Introduction: Production systems for goats in
Colombia have had an important development
in recent years, increasing production levels by
the use of animals with a higher genetic merit,
which demands a better nutritional management
of folds. Materials and methods: Fifteen Saanen
and alpine goats were evaluated during three
periods of a 90 days lactation: P1: 10 days after
birth; P2: 60 days after birth and P3: 90 days
after birth, aiming to determine the plasmatic
concentrations of the main metabolites that
indicate the energetic and protein metabolism
of animals fed with several silage types. With
that objective, goats were assigned randomly
in three corrals in which they were fed different
silage types (corn, sorghum and sunflower).
Results and discussion: The indicators of the
energetic metabolism had, in al of the diets,
an increase in their concentrations as lactation
progressed, except the glucose, which kept
constant concentrations during the three
periods. The same happened to albumin, BUN
and ALT concentrations. Conclusions: Lactation
stage is very important to determine the
concentrations of the metabolites that indicate
energy, due to the increase of the production
levels by the animals and the mobilization of
body reserves. It is necessary to increase these
studies, anyway, to know the effect of diets
and the fold production stage in our country.
