Abstract
Introduction. In this article the sleeping and kife
quality aspects (LQ) of women in the Araguaia Valley,
Brazil, were evaluated. Objective. The objective
of this work was to evaluate the LQ and the
sleeping quality in middle age and elderly women.
Materials and methods. 50 women, 38 in middle
ages (51,5 ± 5,56 years) and 12 elderly (65,17 ±
5,22 years) from Aragarças (GO), Barra do Garças
(MT) and Pontal del Araguaia (MT), were evaluated.
Life quality was measured with the WHOQOL-bref questionnaire, which focuses on questions such as
the energy for daily activities; satisfaction with the
physical performance for the daily activities; satisfaction
with sleep, health, physical appearance and
life quality. Results. The frequency of women that
slept up to 5 hours a night, which means a time lower
than the recommended time, was 20,83% and a
33,33% for those in middle ages and elderly, respectively.
Concerning the acceptance of the physical appearance,
elderly women were more satisfied than
those in middle ages, given the fact that 83,33% said
they are completely satisfied, surpassing the middle
age group, which had a 58,33%. Elderly women had
a lower satisfaction with their performance, a 75%,
in comparison to the middle age women, which had
87,5%. The satisfaction with the own health was
lower in elderly women, 41,66%, compared to those
in middle ages, with 70,83%. Concerning the fact of
having a lot of energy for their activities, the elderly
women showed a better disposition (58,33%) than
those in middle ages (37,5%). Conclusions. Elderly
women had a better physical disposition for daily
activities, a better acceptance of their own bodies
and a better life quality satisfaction in comparison to
those in middle ages, The satisfaction with the own
health was higher among those in middle ages. One
quarter of the middle age women and one third of the
elderly women sleep for a time much lower than the
time recommended.
