Resumen
This article registers the most important aspects related to the project formulation under
the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of the Kyoto Protocol and, more specifically, the
project called “Más bosques para Medellín: un ambiente sano para el presente y el futuro” (more
forests for Medellín: A sane environment for the present and the future), which aims to get
international resources, selling carbon credits by establishing forest plantations, silvopastoral
systems and models of assisted natural regeneration, keeping in mind the social, economical
and cultural traditions of the population that live in the surroundings of Medellín.
The formulation of the forestry CDM project for Medellín was made via a strategic alliance
between the Área Metropolitana del Valle de Aburrá (Metropolitan Area of the Aburrá Valley),
the Secretaría de Medio Ambiente del Municipio de Medellín (Environmental Secretary of the
Medellín Municipality) and the Corporación Autónoma Regional de las Cuencas del río Negro
y Nare – CORNARE (Autonomous Regional Corporation of the Negro and Nare Rivers,
CORNARE) under the inter-administrative agreement No. 287, 2007.
