Resumen

At the moment 1100 million people lack access to purified water and 2600 million people do not have suitable systems for water sanitation, systems that would help to reduce a great number of diseases. Although several actions have been undertaken from the different government and international institutions, trying to elude the water crisis, the tendency continues being negative. The utilization of different sustainable technologies will be essential in order to advance towards a greater worldwide water supply, from the water collection, its treatment and reuse. The constructed wetlands are presented as an example of suitable and sustainable technology to treat a variety of wastewaters including an urban, agricultural or industrial source, among others.
