Abstract

Argumentation is understood here as an intellectual and social activity by which ideas are defended or disproven, with the sole purpose of reaching understandings and agreements. Objective. The aim of this research project was to characterize the arguments some primary school students exchanged while developing learning situations mediated by the pedagogical use of web 2.0 tools. Materials and methods. The participants were 65 5th and 7th grader children who actively partook in different learning tasks framed in a pedagogical classroom project. The data was collected by analyzing a set of arguments drawn from the interaction of the kids in the different tasks: forums, the creation of digital texts, oral exchanges. A heat map was used to represent the characterization of the arguments analyzed. Results. Students produced different kinds of arguments while interacting in ICT mediated learning environments, which constitutes an empirical proof of their cognitive and social skills to get involved in dialogic and discussion activities. Conclusions. The results showedthat promoting argumentation activities in school may help students develop different competences as they discuss about their daily experiences, with the mediation of the teacher, and the support of web 2.0 tools.
