Resumen
Energy management in business is the base to implement, in industries and housing, the rational
use of energy. This article describes the stages to establish an energy management in a
company from the industry sector. The methodology applies basic statistical and mathematical
concepts to understand consumption phenomena in a machine, a production line or a general
process. Colombian managers do not invest in such projects because they ignore the scope
they have and, despite the fact that our electric market is not regulated and is very efficient
compared to others in the world, there are not clear policies to define and support investments
on rational energy use projects.
