    In our higher education, humanism plays a secondary role as a part of the academic programs. This situation generates a big concern among universities, because this fact is framed in a society which is in a crisis and requests for a humanization of its situation. This criterion contains a hope of solution for the complex current situation. These conditions invite us to look for a potentialization of the sense and the effective value of he humanism in an academic framework and to legitimate the need to do this for the construction of a more equitative and participative society, with a clear idea of the human sense in mankind.

    El estoicismo como una propuesta alternativa para la contemporaneidad

    This essay makes a meditation about the feasibility of (with the aim of reconsidering contemporarity) a doctrine like that of the stoics, keeping in mind the historical distance between that theory and our time. To accomplish this, we have considered some aspects that allow the estimation of the reasons why this theory can be used for this purpose. Among them, we remark: a glance to the life of one of the most emblematic authors of the stoic school, Lucius Annaeus Seneca. The sense of stoicism as a way of life and philosophy doctrine, and a small review to Seneca’s work to, finally, conclude remarking some common criteria between stoic interests and those of our times.
