Abstract
Introduction. Textiles sector has a special place
among tyhose that have a high environmental impact. Textile dyes are very persistent in the environment and the classic elimination methods are
not useful in this case given the fact that partial
oxidations or reductions can generate very toxic
secondary products. Sensitized photo degradation
with TiO2
or FeCl
3
, is technique that can be used
as a depuration system or as a tertiary process,
specially in industrial waste´s treatment. Objective. To evaluate the interaction of TiO 2
and FeCl
3
, with H2
O2
from textile liquid wastes by the use
of artificial light through response surfaces. Materials and methods. A 60 Hz MIGHTY PURE ultra-violet light lamp was used with a 41 cm x 25,5
cm x 20 glass bowl with 15 L of sample. This system is supplemented with a pump that produces
a 0,047 L/s flow. Results. A 100% degradation
was obtained, and so a 70.1% mineralization percentage in the test in which a 60 mg/L FeCl
3
and
1.0 mL/L of H 2
O2
dose was used. Conclusion.
FeCl
3
ddegrades and mineralizes water faster
than H2
O2
.
