Resumen
In the Área Metropolitana del Valle de Aburrá (Metropolitan Area of the Aburrá Valley) Cleaner
Production Program framework, and with the work made with the companies that signed
the cleaner production agreements, it has been possible to identify environmental and social
problems in communities located near some companies. Those problems were also visible
during the execution of inter-administrative agreement for the identification, analysis and
systematization of environmental conflicts in the metropolitan region, signed by the Área
Metropolitana del Valle de Aburrá and Universidad Nacional in 2007. Therefore, the efforts of
the diverse people and institutions involved were focused, designing a participative planning
process called “Plan SAC” that covers social, environmental and communications management.
It includes, in an active way, companies, communities and the State and has, by making transparent
communications, achieved good results and many lessons about strengthening social and
environmental responsibility were successfully learned during the last two years. These good
results and lessons have been beneficial for companies, the communities influenced by them
and for the environmental authorities.
