Item Exergía en sistemas biológicos: Aproximación holística para el estudio de ecosistemas y el manejo ambiental(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2015-03-06) Álvarez Hincapié, Carlos Federico; Velásquez Arredondo, Héctor IvánEcologic systems operate from the interaction of biotic and abiotic elements, including masses, energy and information flows. Exergy is the component of energy that can develop a maximum work capacity with respect to a reference state in the environment. Its application in the study of ecosystems allows the development of theories, models and approaches based on thermodynamics, thus increasing the prediction and the analysis power of environmental and ecological sciences. This revision introduces a synopsis of the concept of exergy and some applications on ecological and environmental studies.Item Gestión y certificación agroambiental: camino a la sustentabilidad de la floricultura(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2007) Álvarez Hincapié, Carlos Federico; Acevedo Aponte, Julián; Hernández Ceballos, Arley Camilo; Piedrahita Arias, Jaime SebastiánLooking for safe and environmentally respectful products, retailers and manufacturers became more interested in the use of “sustainable” methods. In the agricultural production this includes diverse concepts like integral farms, none or minimum pesticide use, environmental sensitivity, long term soil management, as well as preoccupations related to the worker dignity, health, and well-being. The Colombian floriculture represents one of the main agricultural sectors for the country, due to its employment generation and external money incoming, but its production can entail diverse ecological and social problems. It is here where the management systems and environmental certification work. The management is related to a process of continuous improvement through the planning, the implementation of good practices, the elaboration of protocols, registries and revision. In the floriculture there are different certification systems like EurepGAP-GAP, MPS, FLP and the Rainforest Alliance, among others. In Colombia the program Florverde, by Asocolflores, is remarkable. These systems present differences and similarities in their approaches and demands, but in general they can be related with the search of a greater sustainability on the flower production. Nevertheless, its sole implementation does not guarantee sustainability. Sauce and conserve industries are a part of the food sector. They elaborate, transform, prepare, conserve and pack human consumption food, in this case pineapple sauces, pulps and marmalades, from agricultural raw materials 1-2. The solid organic waste from this industrial sector’s productive activity must be treated in a proper way, in order to reduce its negative environmental impact. Objective. The implementation of an integral solid waste management plan in an agricultural industry of sauce and conserve production. Materials and methods. An internal plan for the integral management of solid waste was proposed, including campaigns of waste reduction in the sources, with flyers with information of consciousness and training. Besides, colorful bins were installed in order to incentivize the classification of materials. The possibilities of commercialization of the recyclable materials obtained were evaluated and, finally, a better model for the disposal of pineapple peel was proposed. This is an organic remain generated in the cut process and it was usually sent to the landfills. Results. The plan was implemented in the company, creating a new environmental consciousness. A better use of the organic waste was achieved by sending them to a worm culture. Besides, along with the efficient separation of materials, a monthly earning of COL $ 176.920 was obtained. Conclusion. A reduction of negative environmental impacts was achieved. Besides, the plan brought new economic benefits for the company and the first steps were taken for executing cleaner production policies and management systems which can be useful for more certifications in the future.Item Sistemas de certificación ambiental para la extensión tecnológica, la competitividad y el desarrollo rural(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2012-05-04) Álvarez Hincapié, Carlos FedericoEnvironmental Management activities are more and more demanded by society in order to guarantee the sustainability of the productive processes, including those developed in rural areas. Thus, markets have generated certification mechanisms as a way to intervene in the production systems, making them amicable to the environment and creating another competitiveness tool for companies. To get these certifications technological extension activities are required from several social actors, including research centers, corporative sectors, universities and public and private agents.
