Along with this, it is necessary to include some elements that are still not in the proposal and that are necessary to build an integral statute, where the necessary technical aspects and some bioethical elements that scientists experimenting with animals must keep in mind. The current regulations are not enough, this is why the three regulations are briefly synthesized and changes, adjustments and elements to include are proposed. The regulations under discussion are: Estatuto Nacional de Protección de los Animales (National Statute for the Protection of Animals, Law 84, 1989); Norma Científico-Técnica para la Investigación en Salud (Scientific-technical Regulation for Research on Health, Resolution 8430, 1993) and Código de Ética para el Ejercicio Profesional de la Medicina Veterinaria y Zootecnia (Ethical Code for the Professional Practice of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnical Sciences, Law 576, 2000).Item Asociaciones de productores agrarios y comercialización de sus productos en el oriente antioqueño(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2017) Acevedo González, Gabriel AntonioIntroduction. For peasants, consultants, institutions and government, it is clear that small producers have scarce probability of success when they try to sell their products individually in the market, so they have to be associated. Objective. Was to characterize the associations of agricultural producers in the eastern region of Antioquia and analyze the marketing impact. Material and methods. Associations of agricultural producers where evaluated in 16 towns of the eastern region of Antioquia, with the support of UMATAs and Agricultural and Environmental Secretaries. Results and conclusions. Was found that in the studied zone there sparse associations with a commercial project and with low quantities of sales. Therefore, those associations are not financially sustainable. Additionally, the causes of the limited associative development were known, especially with marketing goals. Moreover, factors of success and failure of the associations were identified; this information will give guidelines for future associative ventures. Results suggest creating an associative marketing system, inclusive, with regional scope and high volume operations, that make it sustainableItem Aspectos sobre Rinotraqueítis Infecciosa Bovina(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2014-10-22) Duque, Daniel; Ramón Estévez, Josué N; Abreu Vélez, Adrián Manuel; Moncada Velásquez, Marcela; Durango, Juan Carlos; Molina Palacios, DanielThe infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR) is a contagious disease that affects bovines. It is essentially characterized by the presence of an exudative rhinotracheitis that can affect large bronchi of infected animals. Although the abortion is just a sequel of the respiratory disturbance, there are reports of viral groups with some abortive potential that can cause abortion outbreaks. In lactating cows, it causes milk production decrease and infertility. In Colombia there had been reported important data of serum-prevalence in the Caribbean, Andine and Pie de Monte Llanero regions, with important epidemiologic and economic impact. Here is presented a review about infectious bovine rhinotracheitis caused by herpesvirus, highlighting aspects of biologic properties of the virus, pathogenesis and clinical signs of the different ways of presentation of the disease.Item Caracterización de la oferta laboral en el municipio de Caldas(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2012) Burgos Jaramillo, Carlos Mario; Hoyos Espinosa, Bernardo LeónThis study aims to characterize the employment offered in Caldas, Antioquia, by the use of several variables which allow an analysis of the socioeconomic situation and the employment status of the inhabitants. Qualitative and quantitative variables were measured, and some of them were crossed in order to have a better classification and achieve a scope of the scenario the Caldas inhabitants are living in. The crossed classification of qualitative variables, called correspondence analysis, allows a comparison of the results with hypothetical situations formulated by well-known national and international economist, helping the authors to dare to propose actions addressed to remove the obstacles to economic development in the area surrounding Corporación Universitaria Lasallista. More analysis that cross qualitative variables evidence the causes of the differences between the incomes the families have, and also help to identify and characterize the groups of people that live under more precarious conditions. This socioeconomic diagnosis can be used by the local and the provincial governments to focus their efforts and resources on more efficient actions, aming to bring economic development in the medium term. The Corporación also has an important role to play, orienting its development plans towards a positive impact on the surrounding area.Item Caracterización del producto artesanal Casabito(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2017) Álvarez Badel, Beatriz Elena; Cordero Rivero, Adiela Beatriz; Becerra Ossa, Jhennys PaolaIntroduction. El Casabito is a handmade food product elaborated in the municipality of Ciénaga de Oro, department of Cordoba, under non-standardized and low durability processes. It represents an important line in the local economy and culture. Objective. Characterize Casabito Physicochemically, microbiological and bromatologically and identify its elaboration process. Methodology. Producing families of Casabe and Casabito were identified through surveys; the product elaboration was registered since the beginning of the process, reception of raw material, its transformation, packaging, conservation methods and marketing routes. Three random producers were selected for the psychochemical, microbiological and bromatological characterization of Casabito, according to the AOAC 966.23, AOAC 966.21, AOAC 980.31, NTC 4519, and NTC 4132 techniques. Results. 9 artisanal producer families of Casabe and Casabito were found. Casabito has intermediate dampness values, high carbohydrate content and low pH, high microbial counts of mildews and yeasts, as well as aerobes and mesophylls. Conclusion. The handmade food Casabito is a product rich in nutrients; It has low production cost and can be elaborated following an hygienic and standardized process without losing its sensorial attributes and fulfilling legal regulations.Item Cierre informal y vacuum como tratamiento de sepsis abdominal en perros(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2014-10-22) Palacio Marín, Laura; Alzate Velásquez, DavidInflammation of the abdominal cavity called peritonitis, can be generated spontaneously or as a result of pre-existing intra-abdominal pathologies. The clinical signs usually progress rapidly until the development of sepsis and septic shock, and then the prognosis is reserved, with a mortality rate of 70% approximately. The common cause is the presence of gastrointestinal tract contents in the abdominal cavity, being the treatment of choice the informal closure of the abdominal wall, maintaining the abdomen open and facilitating the process of peritoneal dialysis, by the technique called “bogota bag”, which is performed in order to keep the abdomen open and the organs covert to prevent microorganism contaminationl. This technique looks for the active and periodic drainage of the abdominal cavity, to help in the elimination of inflammation factors, prevent the adhesion of the peritoneum to abdominal organs and facilitate the expansion of the organs avoiding arterial and venous compression. This system is complemented by wet dressings and drainage tubes over the polyurethane bag, connecting this to a vacuum system getting negative pressure of 100 to 150 mmHg, with the use of a polyester adhesive plastic that covers the abdomen, allowing efficiently drainage with reduction of fluids, avoiding viscera drying, controlling fluid loss and inducing the formation of granulation tissue.Item Comportamiento de las exportaciones de limón persa (citrus latifolia tanaka) al mercado de los estados unidos(2016) Arias Vargas, Francisco Javier; Suarez, ErnestoIntroduction. This paper aims to analyze the behavior of Persian lemon, also known as Tahiti lemon (Citrus latifolia Tanaka),exports to the United States market, which stands out as the main market worldwide, during 2011-2015. Materials and methods. Multiple databases were used, as well as the compilation of reports applicable to the citrus chain obtained from secondary sources for the three countries analyzed and interviews with experts from Mexico, Guatemala and Colombia. Exports reports were also generated by the subheading 08.05.50 for lemons (citrus limon, citrus limonum) and limes (citrus aurantifolia, citrus latifolia). Then, the results were filtered for Persian lemon “citrus latifolia tanaka”. Results. Persian lemon (Tahiti) is the most popular variety among US consumers, and Mexico is the main supplier with a 98% share of the country’s imports and where countries like Guatemala and Colombia have possibilities to get a higher market share, despite their marginal participation, achieving in all cases a price between four and six times the rural average one in the US market.Item Defecto de septo interatrial en un canino de raza Border collie(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2012) Posada Arias, Silvia; García, Ricardo; Saldarriaga, Alejandro; White, MónicaInterauricular communication is a cardiac failure produced by a defect of the interatrial partition. The problem appears when there is a hole between the atria, permitting a left to right flow, or in chronic cases, from right to left. There is this case, with an eight months old Border collie female, which was taken to the Animal Physiology Laboratory of Corporación Universitaria Lasallista for an electrocardiography practice. A high QRS complex was found, suggesting a ventricular hypertrophy and leading to the performance of additional tests, which produced interauricular communication as a diagnose. The consumption and commercialization of vegetables has been increasing due to its nutritional value recognition. However its commercialization and processing generates residues representing a public health. Colombia produce 25,079 ton of organic wastes per day, from which 3,713 are generated by Antioquia. Only the “Central Mayorista de Antioquia” produces 12 m3 per day of lettuce and cabbage. For this reason, an alternative to its use is to make a premix for animal alimentation, because are considered an important source of carotenoids as lutein, responsible of part of yolk color. Objective. It was studied the effect of drying process over microstructure, color and water activity of lettuce and cabbage residues to ensure stability in animal feeding. Materials and methods. The residues microstructure was analyzed through scanning electronic microscope (SEM), the color changes by CIELAB coordinates and desorption and moisture losses curves were determined. Results. The microscopic images shown structural changes before and after drying, being bigger to lettuce that has a thin and fragile tissue than cabbage. With regard to the color change, this was more evident in cabbage with a ΔE of 69.95 while lettuce was 12.48. The sorption moisture losses curves matched the theoretical models. Conclusion. The results prove that a premix made of these residues will have stability during storage due to the water activity obtained.Item Efecto de la suplementación de ensilajes sobre perfiles metabólicos en cabras lactantes(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2012-08-22) Bedoya Mejía, Oswaldo; Arenas Sánchez, Fredy Arley; Rosero Noguera, Ricardo; Posada Ochoa, SandraIntroduction: Production systems for goats in Colombia have had an important development in recent years, increasing production levels by the use of animals with a higher genetic merit, which demands a better nutritional management of folds. Materials and methods: Fifteen Saanen and alpine goats were evaluated during three periods of a 90 days lactation: P1: 10 days after birth; P2: 60 days after birth and P3: 90 days after birth, aiming to determine the plasmatic concentrations of the main metabolites that indicate the energetic and protein metabolism of animals fed with several silage types. With that objective, goats were assigned randomly in three corrals in which they were fed different silage types (corn, sorghum and sunflower). Results and discussion: The indicators of the energetic metabolism had, in al of the diets, an increase in their concentrations as lactation progressed, except the glucose, which kept constant concentrations during the three periods. The same happened to albumin, BUN and ALT concentrations. Conclusions: Lactation stage is very important to determine the concentrations of the metabolites that indicate energy, due to the increase of the production levels by the animals and the mobilization of body reserves. It is necessary to increase these studies, anyway, to know the effect of diets and the fold production stage in our country.Item Efecto del método de colección sobre la digestibilidad total de soya extruida en cerdos(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2012-08-22) Gutiérrez Vergara, Cristian; Ciro Galeano, Johana; Parra Suescún, Jaime EduardoIntroduction: Total digestibility can be evaluated by the use of direct and indirect methods. The results, it is supposed should be identical, under normal physiological conditions, for digestibility studies in pigs. The literature available, nevertheless, reports lower digestibility coefficients for the indirect method. Objective: To compare different collection methods for the total digestibility (TD) of extruded soybean protein in pigs. Materials and methods: The field work was developed at San Pablo Center, in Universidad Nacional de Colombia. 18 pigs with a live weight of 35.5kg were used. They were housed in independent cages and their experimental diet contained extruded soybean as protein source, and also met all of the minimal nutrition requirements. The experimental work consisted in five days of adaptation to the experimental diet and 10 days of collecting the feces and nylon bags. The experimental treatments were: Total collection of feces (TCF), mobile nylon bag technique (MNBT). Method of the indicator: Chromium oxide (MI1) and ferric oxide (MI2). The data of rough protein disappearance were analyzed with a statistic design of random blocks, by the use of the GLM procedure of the SAS statistic package (2006). Results: Statistic differences (P<0.01) appeared between treatments, in which TCF and MNBT had the highest digestibility coefficients. There was no statistic difference (P>0.01) between MI1 and MI2. Conclusions: TCF and MNBT are practical and reliable procedures in nutritional valuing studies for the food used in growing pigs.Item Efecto protector de un sellador de barrera artificial en el post-sellado de pezones de 50 vacas en ordeño mecánico en el Norte de Antioquia(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2014-10-22) R., Miguel Ángel; Giraldo, Juliana; Durango, Juan Carlos; Molina Palacios, Daniel; Abreu Vélez, Adrián Manuel; Moncada Velásquez, Marcela; Ramón E, Josué NicolásIntroduction. At the end of milking of the bovine female, the teat sphincter remains open and expanded for about 30 to 60 minutes. This time favors the entry of environmental microorganisms into the mammary gland, causing new infections and compromising the health of the cow. Objective. Bactericidal disinfectants used, such as iodine to prevent entry of microorganisms into the mammary gland after the milking routine, can easily be inactivated by contact with milk, manure, mud and urine; the nipple then remain unprotected and exposed to the entry of different microorganisms. The protective effect of artificial barrier sealant in dipping post-milking routine prevents the contact of the nipple with environmental microorganisms. Materials and method. The effect of a teat dip artificial barrier sealant was evaluated on the post;dipping in a mechanic milking routine preventing the contact between microorganisms and the nipple after the milking. Also the sealant forms a film on the nipple preventing the entry of bacteria into the udder. Two groups of animals (25 per group) were selected, a group was treated with the artificial barrier dipping in the post-milking period and in the control group was perform the normal routine process. In each group the hygienic quality was tested by Colony Forming Units (CFU/mL). Randomness, independence and normality of experimental errors, homogeneity of variance associated with the effects of variables, independence of action and variances: attached to the model assumptions were validated. There was perform descriptive statistics and ANOVA using SAS 9.0 software. Results. It was demonstrated that de use of a barrier protector decreases the amount of bacteria on the nipple surface in the moment of the milking routine.Item Efectos metabólicos y hormonales post orquiectomía en caninos y felinos(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2015-09-03) Suárez Ortega, AnaNeutering surgery is a common procedure in veterinary practice, since it controls the animal population and prevents reproduction by the elimination of germ cells and gonadal sex hormones. Testosterone, and androgens in general, have several effects on the organism, as well as on the sexual and not sexual organs. The beneficial effects of orchiectomy in the genital tract are therapeutic and preventive of androgen dependent diseases. There are also adverse effects such as increase of food intake and obesity, which leads to alterations in fat metabolism that generate dyslipidemias and insulin resistance, due to the absence of androgens.Item El uso de herramientas cuantitativas en actividades de producción en el sector agropecuario(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2012-08-21) Posada Bernal, RodrigoChoice making in agricultural and livestock sectors is a process that starts with the identification of the problem and finishes when an adequate alternative is established. For that purpose, several qualitative and quantitative tools are available, and they allow a rational election. The case of Fertilizer S.A. is presented as an example. It is a company devoted to produce liquid fertilizer fort plants. A quantitative model for taking decisions is applied, evidencing the possibility of optimizing the scarce resources that participate in any production process, especially in those of the agricultural and livestock sectors, in which inputs are expensive and profitability rates are narrow. The subregion of Southwestern Antioquia has an heterogeneous structure of production, with four major production areas: coffee, coal, livestock and diversified production. However, it has not recognized the environmental impact that can perform these activities in the locality. Objective. An environmental assessment carried on agricultural systems (agriculture and pisciculture) of Angelópolis Township. Materials and methods. It was conducted through field observation and interviews with small producers of avocado, sugarcane, coffee, citrus, plantain and trout. Results. Are evident environmental problems associated with production including possible contamination with sewage, the lack of reforestation (renewal of native vegetation cover) and the improper disposal of waste and packaging of chemicals. Additionally, is remarkable the little interaction with the environmental authority and the lack of association in some production systems, aspects that could benefit the conservation of resources such as biodiversity, soils and water.Item Evaluación de la estimulación ovárica y la calidad de oocitos bovinos obtenidos por aspiración folicular(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2017) Giraldo Giraldo, John Jairo; Ordoñez Ramirez, Sebastián; Gómez Oquendo, Jorge; Restrepo Betancur, GiovanniIntroduction. Ultrasound-guided follicular aspiration (UGFA) coupled with the in-vitro production of embryos is an important alternative for the use of genetic resources of bovine females of high productive potential. However, the reduced quality of oocytes recovered with this technique is one of the aspects with the highest impact on the efficiency to obtain embryos. Materials and methods. This research compared follicular development with the quality of oocytes recovered by UGFA, in bovine females conventionally over-stimulated with FSH or FSH and hCG. Results. A higher quality of oocytes recovered from animals stimulated with FSH and hCG was seen compared to the ones stimulated with FSH only. Conclusions. Inclusion of Hcg in a scheme for the ovarian over-stimulation with FSH of bovine females subject to follicular aspiration becomes a favorable effect on the quality of recovered oocytes.Item Evaluación de Trichoderma spp como control biológico en una plantación a pequeña escala de cacao(2016) Acosta Rojas, Sharon; Villa, Jorge A.Introduction. Disease control in several crops is mainly made by using chemical methods, which are expensive and hard to get for small scale producers. The biologic control is an alternative that can be helpfulin terms of expenses and environmental sustainability, as elements from the same crop are used, such as in the case of the cocoa´s shell, which is usually discarded. Objective. The objective of this study was to evaluate the healthy fraction of cobs and its performance after receiving two treatments: a biologic one and another chemically synthetized. Materials and methods. The study was performed in Santo Domingo, Antioquia, Colombia, in a small cocoa crop in which 17 trees in three terains were chosen. A biologic control comprised of a lixiviate with the Trichoderma spp. fungus was sprinkled on the tree (n=6), a chemically syinthetized treament that induced resistance (K3 PO3 ) injected in the tree´s log (n=5) and a control with no application (n=6). After the application, the sick and healthy cobs were counted and the humid weight of the seeds was registered during 2 months in each treatment. Results and conclusions. No significant difference was found in the fractions of the healthy cobs and the performance. Nevertheless, the biologic control had an improvement in comparison to the control, indicating that it can be a potentially alternative at a lower cost for small crops.Item Evaluación de Trichoderma spp como Control Biológico en una Plantación a Pequeña Escala de Cacao(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2017) Rojas, Sharon Acosta; A.
