Item Caracterización de la oferta laboral en el municipio de Caldas(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2012) Burgos Jaramillo, Carlos Mario; Hoyos Espinosa, Bernardo LeónThis study aims to characterize the employment offered in Caldas, Antioquia, by the use of several variables which allow an analysis of the socioeconomic situation and the employment status of the inhabitants. Qualitative and quantitative variables were measured, and some of them were crossed in order to have a better classification and achieve a scope of the scenario the Caldas inhabitants are living in. The crossed classification of qualitative variables, called correspondence analysis, allows a comparison of the results with hypothetical situations formulated by well-known national and international economist, helping the authors to dare to propose actions addressed to remove the obstacles to economic development in the area surrounding Corporación Universitaria Lasallista. More analysis that cross qualitative variables evidence the causes of the differences between the incomes the families have, and also help to identify and characterize the groups of people that live under more precarious conditions. This socioeconomic diagnosis can be used by the local and the provincial governments to focus their efforts and resources on more efficient actions, aming to bring economic development in the medium term. The Corporación also has an important role to play, orienting its development plans towards a positive impact on the surrounding area.Item Evaluación del poder fertilizante de dos abonos orgánicos preparados con microorganismos eficientes en plantas de tomate y maíz(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2012) Gutiérrez, Luz Adriana; Seguro, Sebastián; Arenas Arrubla, Juan Esteban; Moreno, Juan GuillermoThe solid waste disposal industrial and agricultural problems is one of the XXI century, recycling and reuse of these can largely solve this situation, this is how the production of organic fertilizers facilitates the provision of agricultural residues and residents. In this investigation occurred as bocashi fermented fertilizers and Bioplus with and without efficient microorganisms previously isolated, evaluating the power of these fertilizers on tomato and corn seeds in the greenhouse, quantifying the apical growth of these for a period of four weeks. The results showed that the additive with microorganisms Bioplus efficient is a good organic fertilizer for corn and tomatoes.Item Defecto de septo interatrial en un canino de raza Border collie(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2012) Posada Arias, Silvia; García, Ricardo; Saldarriaga, Alejandro; White, MónicaInterauricular communication is a cardiac failure produced by a defect of the interatrial partition. The problem appears when there is a hole between the atria, permitting a left to right flow, or in chronic cases, from right to left. There is this case, with an eight months old Border collie female, which was taken to the Animal Physiology Laboratory of Corporación Universitaria Lasallista for an electrocardiography practice. A high QRS complex was found, suggesting a ventricular hypertrophy and leading to the performance of additional tests, which produced interauricular communication as a diagnose.Item Nueva perspectiva del parvovirus canino(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2012) Hurtado Hernández, Daniela; Báez Suárez, Paola CatherineCanine Parvovirus, (CPV), is one of the main viral agents that affect canines regardless their age, but puppies are more likely to suffer from it. Nowadays, the world epidemiological situation of this disease is enzootic. Despite the availability of a vaccine, its dissemination is growing among canine populations from the South of the Aburrá Valley, the place in which the case analysis is focused. This article illustrates a brief and updated bibliographic revision of CPV, discussing the diagnostic plans, treatments and the prevention of this disease at a world scale. Cases in the South of the Aburrá Valley are also introduced, taking Clínica Veterinaria Lasallista Hermano Octavio Martínez as a reference.Item Oportunidades de los distritos agroindustriales frente a los tratados de libre comercio(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2012) Arias Vargas, Francisco JavierGlobalization directly influences the traditionally used commercial ways and practices, blurring borders and giving two paths to the inhabitants of a territory: They can adaptat themselves and look for better ways to compete, which requires preparation, or simply step aside and remember old good times. Free trade agreements (FTA) aim to reduce or finish tax barriers, allowing a free trade flow. Nevertheless, it is necessary to bring a balance to them, which can be applied only in the case that the parties involved have the resources and the preparation to take the best advantages from this kind of agreements. Under these terms, agricultural industries are sensible to FTA´s. They, then, need to bet prepared and strengthen schemes such as Agricultural Industry Districts, as a factor that can foster this segment by the use of scale economies.Item Aglepristone como tratamiento del piometra canino(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2012) Molina Díaz, Víctor ManuelDescribe the case of a female french bull dog pyometra presenting diagnosis and was treated with aglepristone. A female french bull dog dog 8 months old, he came to view the center of Veterinary Medicine CES University, Medellín, Colombia, was presented estrus a half months ago, and exhibited purulent vaginal discharge, ultrasonography was performed abdominal full hemoleucograma antibiogram cultivation with pyometra diagnostic, therapy was provided with an anti progestogen aglepristone, synthetic dose of 10 mg / kg, subcutaneously, on days 1, 2, 8, 14 and 28, more enrofloxacin 5 mg / kg every 12 hours for 20 days as monotherapy. The female showed clinical recovery in the first week and underwent finding ourselves CBC normal, entered estrus at 3 months, at which time it was made, Pap smear and ultrasound, diagnosed with early proestrus, progesterone was measured on 11 (15 ng / ml) and served on 11, 13 and 15, present term pregnancy with normal birth, pups alive without physical malformation.Item Terapia asistida con animales. Efectos positivos en la salud humana(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2012) Cabra Martínez, Cristhian AlbertoOne could say that although there is information and practice for many centuries about the benefits of human-animal relationship are very recent research processes in this regard. Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT or TACA) is performed when a human interacts with predetermined criteria for therapeutic purposes. There are different types of TAA such as hippotherapy, the dolphin therapy and small animals. The purpose of these rules is to intervene to improve health conditions in people with cardiovascular problems, autism, Down syndrome, victims of violence, motricity among others. There are some organizations or institutions at global and national levels that develop these types of programs such as Bocolan Foundation of Spain and Las Golondrinas of Colombia, entities that contribute to the improvement those important activities.Item El uso de herramientas cuantitativas en actividades de producción en el sector agropecuario(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2012-08-21) Posada Bernal, RodrigoChoice making in agricultural and livestock sectors is a process that starts with the identification of the problem and finishes when an adequate alternative is established. For that purpose, several qualitative and quantitative tools are available, and they allow a rational election. The case of Fertilizer S.A. is presented as an example. It is a company devoted to produce liquid fertilizer fort plants. A quantitative model for taking decisions is applied, evidencing the possibility of optimizing the scarce resources that participate in any production process, especially in those of the agricultural and livestock sectors, in which inputs are expensive and profitability rates are narrow.Item Reporte de caso: Luxación de la articulación coxofemoral en un equino(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2012-08-21) Castillo Franz, Cristian Alejandro; Laverde Trujillo, Laura María; Cano Benjumea, Claudia Alejandra; García Naranjo, RicardoThe case of a horse with a 5 of 5 claudication of the posterior left limb due to traumatic cause brought to the veterinary clinic Hermano Octavio Martínez López f. s. c is described. A general clinic test was performed, emphasizing the locomotor system. A dislocation in the hip joint was found, and it was confirmed by the ultrasonography test performed on the entire hip region. An evident separation of the femoral head and the left acetabulum could be seen, using the right hip as a reference. Given the prognosis of the affection, the animal´s sacrifice was authorized. Then, the hip´s dislocation was confirmed and so was the level of tissue damage around the zone, because of the femoral head´s displacement in a head to back direction. The main objective of this report is to show how ultrasonography is an efficient diagnostic aid for this kind of cases.Item La vitrificación como alternativa de conservación de embriones producidos in vitro(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2012-08-21) Giraldo Giraldo, John Jairo; Ordóñez Ramírez, Sebastián; Álvarez Arango, AndreaCryopreservation of bovine embryos produced in vitro eases the use of embryo transfer programs, establishing germplasm banks with a permanent access to genetic material of a determined individual or race and the biotechnologies related such as cloning and transgenesis (Albarracín, 2005). Therefore, this has brought a necessity to conserve the embryos remaining from the in vitro production. Nevertheless, the cryopreservation of such embryos by the use of conventional freezing methods has not reached satisfactory survival rates (Vajta, 2000), so other methods, such as vitrification, have been being used. This method hast cooling curves above those from the traditional freezing, allows to reduce the embryo´s exposition time in the critical temperature points, reduces thermal and mechanic damage caused during the formation of ice and increases the feasibility of the embryos after the devitrification (Lazar, 2000; Arteaga et al., 2002; Vajta and Kuwayama, 2006, Mucci et al., 2006).Item Virus de leucosis bovina: un enemigo silencioso(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2012-08-21) Benavides Benavides, Bibiana; Laverde Trujillo, Laura MaríaViral bovine leukosis is an enzootic disease with a high transmissibility and caused by a virus from the retroviridae family. It affects bovine cattle of any age and causes a high economic impact, especially in dairy herds, due to the high cost of the treatment of the symptoms, premature deaths and the replacement of sick animals (Muñoz, Posso, Muñoz, 2008), reduction of milk production and international trade restrictions (Muñoz et al., 2008; Ott, Johnson, Wells, 2003). In Colombia, it was reported for the first time more than 50 years ago (Mariño, 1984) and sanitary policies have not been yet established to prevent, control and eradicate it. At the moment, it is not mandatory to declare it to the animal sanity authorities. Serologic tests, such as AGID, ELISA and polymerase chain reaction, are used to detect it.Item Evaluación in vitro de celulasas producidas por cepas nativas de Trichoderma reesei, Cladosporium herbarum y Aspergillus niger(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2012-08-21) Gutiérrez Ramírez, Luz Adriana; Pérez Bran, Juan Alejandro; Uribe Londoño, Mario AlbertoIntroduction: Cellulose is the most common polysaccharide in nature. The organisms able to degrade it are mainly fungi and bacteria, known for their ability to produce not only cellulose enzymes, but also amylases, proteases and peptidases, among others, which allow them to recycle the organic material back to the soil. Cellulase hydrolysis takes place by an enzyme complex called cellulases, basically made up by three enzymes: endoglucanase, exoglucanase and β-glucosidases. Objective: Given their importance in industry, in this research it is proposed a characterization of native strains of fungi isolated from several substrates, which were determined as Aspergillus niger, Cladosporiumherbarum and Trichoderma reesei, all of them with cellulolytic activity. Materials and methods: This activity was determined by measuring the production of β-exoglucanase, β-endoglucanase and β-glucosidase. Results: Cladosporiumherbarum had the highest β-exoglucanase level, 0.0554 UI/ ml; Aspergillus niger demonstrated a high β-endoglucanase´s production, 0.02463UI/ ml, and Trichoderma reesei had the best β-glucosidase activity, with 0.000138UI/ml. The latter is the fungus with the best cellulolytic activity.Item Piotórax felino causado por Staphylococcus haemolyticus y Corynebacterium spp: Reporte de un caso(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2012-08-21) Ortiz Álvarez, José Fernando; Suárez Ortega, Ana PatriciaThe case of a Persian cat with a respiratory difficulty and anorexia is described. After performing the laboratory tests and the imaging studies, pyothorax was diagnosed. The animal was also positive to feline viral leukemia. A microbiological culture of the pleural fluid was made, and Staphylococcushaemolyticus and Corynebacteriumspp were isolated. As a treatment, a thorax tube was used to drain the content and a gastrostomy tube was used to feed the patient. After a treatment with antibiotics, the patient recovered its health and was dismissed.Item Uveodermatologic canine syndrome: case report(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2012-08-21) Báez Suárez, Paola Catherine; González Hernández, HenryUveodermatologic syndrome can be identified because it occurs with signs of anterior or posterior uveitis, periocular and mucocutaneous junction’s alopecia and depigmentation signs. An uveodermatologic syndrome case in an 8 1/2 years old collie sheepdog is described. The dog had periorbital alopecia and depigmentation in mucoctaneous junctions. A biopsy of the injuries in the periorbital and nose region turned out in a definitive diagnose of uveodermatologic syndrome. Then, the clinical situation was solved by the use of a therapy with prednisolone.Item Efecto del método de colección sobre la digestibilidad total de soya extruida en cerdos(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2012-08-22) Gutiérrez Vergara, Cristian; Ciro Galeano, Johana; Parra Suescún, Jaime EduardoIntroduction: Total digestibility can be evaluated by the use of direct and indirect methods. The results, it is supposed should be identical, under normal physiological conditions, for digestibility studies in pigs. The literature available, nevertheless, reports lower digestibility coefficients for the indirect method. Objective: To compare different collection methods for the total digestibility (TD) of extruded soybean protein in pigs. Materials and methods: The field work was developed at San Pablo Center, in Universidad Nacional de Colombia. 18 pigs with a live weight of 35.5kg were used. They were housed in independent cages and their experimental diet contained extruded soybean as protein source, and also met all of the minimal nutrition requirements. The experimental work consisted in five days of adaptation to the experimental diet and 10 days of collecting the feces and nylon bags. The experimental treatments were: Total collection of feces (TCF), mobile nylon bag technique (MNBT). Method of the indicator: Chromium oxide (MI1) and ferric oxide (MI2). The data of rough protein disappearance were analyzed with a statistic design of random blocks, by the use of the GLM procedure of the SAS statistic package (2006). Results: Statistic differences (P<0.01) appeared between treatments, in which TCF and MNBT had the highest digestibility coefficients. There was no statistic difference (P>0.01) between MI1 and MI2. Conclusions: TCF and MNBT are practical and reliable procedures in nutritional valuing studies for the food used in growing pigs.Item Efecto de la suplementación de ensilajes sobre perfiles metabólicos en cabras lactantes(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2012-08-22) Bedoya Mejía, Oswaldo; Arenas Sánchez, Fredy Arley; Rosero Noguera, Ricardo; Posada Ochoa, SandraIntroduction: Production systems for goats in Colombia have had an important development in recent years, increasing production levels by the use of animals with a higher genetic merit, which demands a better nutritional management of folds. Materials and methods: Fifteen Saanen and alpine goats were evaluated during three periods of a 90 days lactation: P1: 10 days after birth; P2: 60 days after birth and P3: 90 days after birth, aiming to determine the plasmatic concentrations of the main metabolites that indicate the energetic and protein metabolism of animals fed with several silage types. With that objective, goats were assigned randomly in three corrals in which they were fed different silage types (corn, sorghum and sunflower). Results and discussion: The indicators of the energetic metabolism had, in al of the diets, an increase in their concentrations as lactation progressed, except the glucose, which kept constant concentrations during the three periods. The same happened to albumin, BUN and ALT concentrations. Conclusions: Lactation stage is very important to determine the concentrations of the metabolites that indicate energy, due to the increase of the production levels by the animals and the mobilization of body reserves. It is necessary to increase these studies, anyway, to know the effect of diets and the fold production stage in our country.Item Tumor de la vaina nerviosa periférica en un tigre de bengala (Panthera tigris)(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2013-11-05) Monsalve Buriticá, Santiago; Rojano, Cesar; Martínez Gutiérrez, Lina MaríaA case of pheripheral nerve sneath tumor in a 21 years of age Bengal tiger (Panthera tigris) is reported. The animal comes from an external conservation center in Colombia. This tiger had a swollen elbow joint at the lateral face of its left forelimb, developed during three months and reaching a 15 cm size. An incisional biopsy was performed in order to make a histopathological diagnosis of the injury. The diagnosis was compatible with a tumor of the pheripheral nerve seneath. The tumor was then surgically extracted. The tiger increased its condition and has not suffered any relapse. This is the first report in Colombia of an exotic feline with such a pathology.Item Tratamiento de emergencia y transporte del equino fracturado(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2014-10-22) Jaramillo Morales, Camilo; Vásquez Correa, Eliana MaríaThe field attention of fractured horses is a challenge for the veterinarian, because he must determine quickly whether to start a treatment or recommend the euthanasia. There are important aspects to take into account when trying to solve the case, among these aspects the evaluation of the emergency, the requirement of sedation or anesthesia, initial wound management and fracture stabilization and analgesic, antibiotic and fluid therapy. In addition the selection of an appropriate transportation from the site where is the horse to a referral center. Make quick and accurate decisions is critical for the patient prognosis.Item Generalidades de Papilomavirus con énfasis en equinos(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2014-10-22) Mira Hernández, JulianaPapillomaviruses are recognized as causal agents of a variety of proliferative diseases in many species. These viruses are high speciesspecific and it is suggested that each animal species harbor its own set of viruses. With the discovery of specific papillomaviruses as primary causes of cervical cancer, the study of this family of viruses grow in the last 30 years, leading to the expansion of research in veterinary medicine. Papillomavirus-associated diseases in horses include: classical papilomatosis, genital papillomas/papilomatosis and aural plaques. Despite the similarity in lesion, the course and lesion distribution varies depending on the type of virus involve.Item Evaluación ambiental de actividades agropecuarias de pequeños productores en el municipio de Angelópolis (Antioquia, Colombia)(Corporación Universitaria Lasallista, 2014-10-22) Álvarez Hincapié, Carlos Federico; Gilchrist Ramelli, Elizabeth; David Ruales, Carlos ArturoIntroduction. The subregion of Southwestern Antioquia has an heterogeneous structure of production, with four major production areas: coffee, coal, livestock and diversified production. However, it has not recognized the environmental impact that can perform these activities in the locality. Objective. An environmental assessment carried on agricultural systems (agriculture and pisciculture) of Angelópolis Township. Materials and methods. It was conducted through field observation and interviews with small producers of avocado, sugarcane, coffee, citrus, plantain and trout. Results. Are evident environmental problems associated with production including possible contamination with sewage, the lack of reforestation (renewal of native vegetation cover) and the improper disposal of waste and packaging of chemicals. Additionally, is remarkable the little interaction with the environmental authority and the lack of association in some production systems, aspects that could benefit the conservation of resources such as biodiversity, soils and water.
